Alternative rock veterans Pearl Jam are gearing up for a tour in 2020 — three decades after the band formed in 1990.
Next year, the Grammy-winning grunge group will kick off a 13-date string of shows starting June 23 in Frankfurt, Germany. During the run, they’ll also headline three festivals: Lollapalooza Stockholm in Sweden; Rock Werchter in Belgium; and Lollapalooza Paris in France. On July 10, they’ll perform at London’s Hyde Park for the British Summer Time concert series, which has drawn in some 65,000 attendees for one show in the past. The last date on the tour so far is July 22 in Amsterdam.
The five-piece outfit will share the stage with fellow alt-music legends the Pixies, who this year released “Beneath the Eyrie,” their first album since 2016. Louisville, Ky.-based punk band White Reaper and British rockers Idles will also join Pearl Jam with their current lineup: frontman Eddie Vedder, guitarists Mike McCready and Stone Gossard, bassist Jeff Ament, and drummer Matt Cameron, who joined the four other founding members in 1999.
As Pearl Jam approaches their 30th anniversary, the band is reportedly conjuring a new album for what would be their 11th studio recording — and the first since “Lightning Bolt” in 2013. In an interview with Rolling Stone in January, Ament said, “We’ve gone in, probably, four or five times in the last couple of years, so we have a whole ton of unfinished stuff. We’re just sort of in a little bit of limbo.”
