Blondie drummer Clem Burke and Gang of 4 bassist Dave Allen have passed.
The music industry has experienced significant losses in recent days with the passing of two iconic figures. Clem Burke, the drummer for Blondie, succumbed to cancer today, April 7, at the age of 70. Meanwhile, Gang of Four bassist Dave Allen passed away on Saturday at the age of 69 due to complications from dementia.
Blondie honored Burke with a heartfelt tribute, stating, “Clem was more than a drummer — he was the soul of Blondie. His extraordinary talent, boundless energy, and deep passion for music shaped our sound and success in immeasurable ways. Beyond his musical brilliance, Clem inspired countless individuals through his vibrant spirit, infectious enthusiasm, and unwavering dedication.”
Born Clement Bozewski in New Jersey, Burke joined Blondie in 1975, invited by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein. He contributed to every studio album released by the band between 1976 and 2017. Burke and his bandmates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006, cementing their legacy as pioneers in music.
